SAT Score vs Student to Teacher Ratio
Does Student to Teacher Ratio affect SAT Score?
Our group found a weak relationship between student-to-teacher ratio and SAT score. We found that the median SAT scores for each ratio was consistently around 1200 until 18 students per class. For schools with more than 18 students per class, we saw a lower median SAT score. A lower student-to-teacher ratio means that teachers can have more time to guide each student with the same resources. A higher student-to-teacher ratio means that teachers don’t have as much time or as many resources to cater to each student’s needs. That cutoff at 18 students per class marks the point where teachers can’t provide for every student’s individual needs. If a student’s individual needs aren’t met, they won’t be able to take full advantage of their education. When they take the SAT, their scores will be lower than students who could get their questions answered and their special needs taken care of in class.
